台灣自1995年開始有少數廠商意識到傳統塑膠對環境造成嚴重的污染於是投入生物可分解塑膠的研發起初這些廠商所研發的方向都是以傳統的塑膠如PEPSPPPVC等摻配一定比例的澱粉鎖研發出的產品並不是真正的生物可分解塑膠同時在產品的成熟性也不佳的狀況下許多公司便停止繼續研發直到1999年台灣某廠商引進義大利的Mater-Bi原料後生物可分解塑膠才在台灣再度被重視直到最近許多歐美日本的原料也陸續在台灣發表如Cargill DowDu PontBASF等但礙於價格與台灣對這種新的材料陌生的緣故事實上目前台灣市場僅有Mater-Bi的產品真正在市場銷售PARSED CONTENT
